August 2022 - Kumbia Queers is an Argentine band that combines cumbia with different urban rhythms in order to create their own songs and lyrics with queer themes, humor, and commentary on conservative society and on violence toward women. In their new single “Delivery de Vino”, members Inés Laurencena (drums and percussion), Pila Zombie (guitar), Juana Chang (vocals), Pat Pietrafesa (bass) and Flor Linyera (keys) interpret some of the classic situations of pandemic times in their unique style.
With the sense of humor and criticism that defines them, this fun song was composed and recorded during those days of Zoom meetings, when the band members joined in from different cities while enduring withdrawals from live music. “With the song ‘Delivery de Vino’ we want to convey that for us, communication with others and collective action is almost indispensable, whether it be in person or virtual, as it occurred during the pandemic. Through Zoom, we made songs, we launched a video contest that went very well, we celebrated birthdays, we cried and we did yoga,” Kumbia Queers states.
“Delivery de Vino” releases on platforms with a music video that, in the purest tradition of tropi punk neorrealism, shows Juana Chang with the lockdown look of slippers and pajamas roaming the neighborhood in seach of something to drink and she ends up invoking the call from her room. Once again, with Marcelo Enríquez as director, the music video meaningfully depicts in images Kumbia Queers’ world, coupled with the pixel punk of Dario Georges, who ended up animating the audivisual piece: that delivery that saved our lives.
Meanwhile, on August 4, the tropical punk band launched their tenth tour through Europe with the Fiesteria tour, which is also the name of their upcoming studio album. This tour will take them through Germany, Denmark, Spain, Catalonia, France and Switzerland until the beginning of October. In November they expect to perform in Chile, and on the 27th of that month to participate in the presitigous Rock al Parque festival in Colombia.
